CATHY PILL

After graduating from secondary school in Antwerp, she passed the entrance exam for La Cambre, where her style slowly emerged. Her fascination with volumes came to the fore in her second year, when she was knitting a sphere-shaped sweater using homemade tools and mammoth-like hanks of wool. In her third year, with a performance inspired by Matthew Barney’s Cremaster Cycle and Sèvres porcelain, her personal style came into focus: “materials that flow over the body; a rounded movement…” What was the decisive moment? “I understood that I could have confidence in myself and believe in what I was feeling.” In her fourth year, she copied technical drawings from 17th and 18th-century couture manuals, which she transposed into a modern, architectural vision.
